March Favorites

march 2014 favorites

Hello everyone! So I’ve been home sick for the past two days (ugh!) and since I’m quickly running out of shows and Youtube videos to watch, I thought I’d blog today about my favorites for this month.

1. Revlon Nail Enamel in Dreamer – I’m normally very wary of pastel nail polishes; too often the formula is very streaky and ends up looking gross on my nails.  However, this polish is opaque and is the nicest sky blue shade. It’s the perfect color for Spring.

2.  L’oreal Paris Colour Riche Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick in Molto Mauve -  I’ve been into doing a natural look for everyday recently and this shade does a great job of enhancing my lip color. It lasts for awhile and isn’t really sticky which is a great plus.

3. Dw Home Candle in Sandalwood Myrrh – I picked this candle up from TJ Maxx. I was looking for a scent that was a good transition from Winter to Spring.  I tend to gravitate towards overly sweet candle scents such as vanilla or apple cinnamon, but this candle captured my attention. I thought it would be much too strong, but instead it emits a very nice smoky but sweet scent throughout my apartment.  I don’t really know how to describe it, but it smells awesome.

4. L’oreal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Amber Rush -  I have been using this eye shadow almost everyday to  give my eyes just the slightest hint of shimmer and definition. It’s comes out as a rose gold shade on the lids and it is so pretty on.

5. The Body Shop Body Butter in Coconut - This lotions smells absolutely delicious and it has done wonders for the dry skin on my hands.

Alright that’s all for now. I hope you have a wonderful Friday and a great weekend! Thanks for reading!

Hello Friends…Goodbye Winter

Well…I’m back. Apologies for the lack of posts, but quite frankly I’ve been lazy in regards to blogging (sometimes you just want to wear the same top over and over and not blog about it). On top of that I’m applying for tenure this year. Putting together a binder that says “Hey I’m awesome, give me job security pretty please?” is pretty daunting. Regardless, expect posts to be a little sporadic until April. Anyways enough of my excuses, just thought I’d post one more winter outfit before we say peace out to this God-awful season. 10 more days until Spring!

January Favorites

Here is a round-up of my January beauty product favorites. january faves1: Revlon Photoready Skinlights in Bare Light. I’ve been mixing this with my moisturizer to make my skin look refreshed since it can look dull from time to time due to winter weather.

2. Estee Lauder Five Color Eyeshadow Palette in Enchanted Berries. I’m a sucker for pretty packaging and this palette is definitely pretty…beautiful even. Regardless of the packaging, the colors are also really terrific. The pink and cranberry colors do a great job bringing out my brown eyes.

3.Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara in Black. This has become my go-to mascara. Not only does it volumize but it also lengthens my lashes. The best part was that it didn’t smudge at all. I have very teary eyes and oily lids; so it’s always a win when I find a mascara that doesn’t make me look like a raccoon by the end of the day.

4. Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Curviest Caramel. This is such an amazing nude color for tanner complexions. Most nude lipsticks/glosses make me look dead, but this one enhances my natural color and overall looks great. I use it for nights out when I’m doing a smokey eye.

5. Butter London Lippy in Rosie Lee. I cannot get enough of this lip gloss. I’ve been using it everyday since I’ve gotten it. I’ve used it so much that I already ordered another tube.

Do you have any new product favorites this month?

Until next time, have a lovely Thursday!

An Apple A Day

braggs apple ciderAfter learning about this mask and loving the results, I started looking into other natural options for skin care. I frequently came across forums about using apple cider vinegar (ACV) as toner for the skin, so I decided to give it a try. After using it for a couple of weeks, I have to say that overall the texture of my skin has improved. When paired with the mask, the healing time of my breakouts has shortened and I’ve noticed much less redness and scarring.  Of course results may vary depending on your skin, but if you want to give the toner a try, I’ve listed the steps below.

Here is what you’ll need:

A. Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (I used Bragg)

B. Distilled or filtered water

Step 1: Take 1 part apple cider vinegar and pour into a bottle or jar.

Step 2: Add 1 part of the filtered or distilled water. (Note: You can make the ratio higher or lower, my skin is not as sensitive, so 1:1 works for me).

Step 3: Combine the mixture by shaking the bottle.

Step 4: Apply the toner with a cotton ball after you’ve cleansed your skin. I prefer to use it at night since ACV is smelly.

Step 5: Once the toner has dried on your skin, you can follow it up with your favorite moisturizer.

Step 6: Store your toner in a dry and dark cool place.

That’s all for now, until next time, have a fantastic Tuesday!

Happy Friday! I’m kicking mine off by having a scary movie girls night in with my maid of honor, Barb. There’s nothing better than eating junk food and gossiping with a friend on a Friday night. Here are some links to start your weekend fun:

I will one day bake a pie using this crust.

Custom lip color lab…I definitely need to visit this place.

A cute video my friend Chris sent me.

Even more cuteness.

A song.

Have an amazing weekend!

All that Glitters

Glitter polish has a lot of positives; namely that it dries quickly and it adds a touch of sparkle to your daily life. The one downside? It stays on your nails for what seems like forever. If you’re like me, when you do try to take the polish off, you worry that you might start a small fire with the amount of friction that occurs. Until now that is…the method below is the only way I take glitter polish off nowadays.  Here’s what you’ll need:

A. Your hand that has glitter polish clinging onto it for dear life. glitter 7

B. Cotton balls, aluminum foil, scissors, & acetone nail polish remover

glitter 1Now here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Cut the foil into 10 strips big enough to wrap your fingers in.

glitter 2Step 2: Rip a small piece of cotton from a cotton ball and dip in acetone.

glitter 3Step 3: Place the cotton directly onto the glitter polish and begin to wrap your finger with the foil. glitter 4 It should look like this:

glitter 6Step 4: Repeat Step 3 on all other fingers. Note: I find it easiest to do one hand at time. By the time you’re done, one of your hands will look like this (kinda like Edward Scissor hands, but with tin foil):glitter 8Step 5: Wait 3-5 minutes then remove. glitter 9Step 6: You may have some residual polish, which you can now easily wipe away with the polish remover. Continue until all 10 fingers are polish free! Any stray sparkles on your hands can be removed with tape.

glitter 10Yay no more nail polish fires!

I hope you enjoy your glitter free day and have a terrific Thursday!
